Founded in 1896 as a county intermediate school, Greenhill became a comprehensive in 1964. Set in a splendid site overlooking Carmarthen Bay and Caldey Island, the school buildings have been extended over a number of years although space is still tight. Music is a particular strength with pupils achieving outstanding examination results. More than 30 per cent of pupils 'actively make music' in the school's two orchestras, concert and jazz bands, choirs and numerous small ensembles. Drama, mathematics, art, English and humanities and science are also strong. Pupils play more than 20 competitive sports, some at national level, which include rugby, cricket, athletics, hockey, netball and basketball. An inclusive school, which has not had any permanent exclusions for the last three years, students are encouraged to raise money for charity every year and the school also has strong community links. A building programme worth 5.5 million pound is due to finish in October 2007. Friendly, active and community orientated.
